Men's Final Four picks and predictions from the For The Win staff
The bracket is set and men's March Madness is about to get underway. We have our four No. 1 seeds -- Gonzaga, Arizona, Baylor, and Kansas -- and now it's time to start analyzing each path to New Orleans as we look to crown a 2022 champ.
Will Baylor repeat? Is this the year that Gonzaga finally breaks through and wins the championship? Will Duke send Coach K out with another ring?
This season has not had very many truly dominant teams, meaning we could be set for an electric postseason.
We asked our For the Win and Bet For the Win staff members to make picks for the Final Four. Here's the full bracket:
Caroline Darney, BetFTW
Final Four: Purdue, Auburn, Arizona, Gonzaga
Champion: Gonzaga
I think they actually break through this season. The Zags have been knocking for so many seasons, and this feels like enough of a level playing field that Drew Timme and Chet Holmgren can put them over the edge. Holmgren is a matchup nightmare, and they have the No. 1 offense and No. 7 defense, per KenPom. That's a recipe for success.
Charles Curtis, FTW
Final Four: Gonzaga, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Kentucky
Champion: It's got to be Gonzaga. Chet Holmgren and Co. are too good not to win it all.
Andrew Joseph, FTW
Final Four: Gonzaga, Kentucky, Houston, Kansas
Champion: Gonzaga. At some point, Gonzaga is going to break through and win the program’s first title. And what better time than now? Between Chet Holmgrem, Drew Timme and Julian Strawther, there’s just so much offensive firepower that it’s tough to see the Zags losing this tourney.
Blake Schuster, BetFTW
Final Four: Kansas, Purdue, Gonzaga, Arizona
Champion: Kansas
Is this a very chalk-y Final Four, yes? Do I care? No. We've known who the elite teams are all year. Gonzaga and Arizona should waltz to the Final Four. The Bulldogs boast an absurd amount of talent while the Wildcats are easily the most athletic team in the country. Purdue just missed out on a Big Ten Tournament title, but that may be a good thing for their championship hopes. Kansas has the easiest overall path of any No. 1 seed--as long as the Jayhawks can get past Iowa. I'll stick with KU to cut down some more nets if that happens.
Prince Grimes, BetFTW
Final Four: Gonzaga, Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas
Champion: Arizona. The Wildcats have simply been dominant from wire to wire this season and they don't rely heavily on freshmen like a lot of other teams. The inside-outside presence of sophomore guard Bennedict Mauthrin and junior center Christian Koloko is tough to defend, and this team has more length and range to boot.
Christian D'Andrea, BetFTW
Final Four: Gonzaga, Purdue, Providence, Houston
Champion: Gonzaga
Providence basketball makes no sense. Any outcome would feel familiar from this team, whether that's losing in the first round or fighting their way to the Final Four. Ultimately, this is a group loaded with veterans that's been able to clamp down defensively in the clutch and pull off stunning comebacks. The longer the Friars are in the tournament, the more fun the tournament will be.
Houston has what feels like eight different guys who can carry Kelvin Sampson's team in stretches. They've got Final Four experience now and have the chops to make it back. Purdue is Purdue, which means we'll spend half the game watching the latest seven-foot giraffe stumbling around the basket with a deft touch at the hoop and the other half asking whether or not championship basketball is supposed to look this bad.
Gonzaga's my pick to finally break through and win it all. The talent and experience are there. The Bulldogs have to be frustrated with being basketball Sisyphus. This is the year they finally get the boulder up the mountain.
Robert Zeglinski, BetFTW
Final Four: Gonzaga, Purdue, Villanova, Iowa
Champion: Gonzaga
The Bulldogs were the best team in men's college basketball last season, until the final game. They are the best team in men's college basketball this year, and they'll finish the job this time around. New prime additions of Chet Holmgren are too much to overcome for the rest of the field, letting Gonzaga finally get the monkey off its back.
